Pick n Pay Wine & Food Festival Durban the perfect winter warmer

Durban’s social event of the year is around the corner. The Pick n Pay Wine & Food Festival is back at the picturesque Chris Saunders Park in uMhlanga on Saturday, 27 July 2024, and bookings have opened.

This popular wine and food festival promises a world of flavour and premium experiences with friends and family over the age of 18.

To the sound of live music, festivalgoers can taste award-winning wine from 30 top South African producers. Meanwhile bubbly fans can visit the dedicated Sparkling Experience section for the best local MCC and Cap Classique tasting options, which can be enjoyed with a plate of fresh oysters or sushi.

Tasting Room Sessions debut in Durban

Wine enthusiasts are also in for a treat with the introduction of the wildly popular Pick n Pay Tasting Room sessions, which sells out in Cape Town and Johannesburg year on year. Here, guests are expertly guided by a chef and winemaker to pair the wine featured in the session with freshly-prepared canapés. With each Tasting Room session only accommodating up to 30 guests, booking is essential as these sessions fill up quickly.

The Pick n Pay Fresh Food Market will ensure you don’t go hungry with a selection of delicious curry & rice, pizzas, burgers, cheese and charcuterie platters, fish and chips, grilled Chicken Espetada, along with vegan and vegetarian offerings.

The festival will be held on Saturday, 27 July, with exclusive Pick n Pay Wine Club Member Early Access from 12pm and general access from 1pm. The event closes at 5.30pm.

Tickets are priced from R275 person (includes tasting glass and 20 wine tasting vouchers) for General Access, with the option to add a 30-minute Tasting Room Masterclass session at R100 per person per session, and a Pick n Pay Picnic Bag (serves 2) at R295.

Revised Token System in support of Responsible Drinking

In the interest of promoting responsible drinking and to honour the various price points of the wines available, the organisers have introduced a revised token system based on the price point of each wine on offer:

  • 1 x token: wine up to R199
  • 2 x tokens: wine valued R200 – R399
  • 4 x tokens: wine valued above R400

Tastings end at 4.30pm, after which guests can purchase a bottle of wine at the Wine Bar, grab something to eat, and enjoy the headline act on the lawn.
